For more than 70 years, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory has been engaged in the clinical nutrition business developing innovative products to meet a wide range of nutritional needs including IV solutions and medical food such as enteral nutrition supplementation and oral rehydration solutions.
With the vision of being the “The Best Partner in Clinical Nutrition”, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory (OPF) ventured into the Philippine pharmaceutical market to address the nutritional needs of the Filipino patients with the same high quality clinical nutrition products from Japan and other Asian affiliates.
The Clinical Nutrition (CN) Division was formally established at OPPI in July 2016 with Mr. Yasuhito Kamei at its helm. With the objective of promoting “Total Nutrition Management” (TNM), the division went about its business of launching innovative products for both parenteral and enteral nutrition support.
The first product that was introduced in the Philippine market was Bfluid 1000 mL. Considered in Japan as the standard infusion for SPN (Supplemental Parenteral Nutrition), Bfluid 1000 mL was launched in July 2016 highlighting the importance of Amino Acid, Glucose and Vitamin B1 in patients needing parenteral nutrition.
TNM (Total Nutrition Management) will not be possible without enteral nutrition products. In line with that premise, Neo-Mune Vanilla flavor (immunonutrition supplement) was launched in March 2017 to cater the oral and enteral nutritional needs of malnourished patients. It is enriched with Argenine, Glutamine and Fish Oil which are vital in immunonutrition enhancement.
To address some major concerns of the patients, Bfluid 500 mL and Neo-Mune Melon flavor were added to the Clinical Nutrition portfolio in October 2017. With this additional SKUs, OPPI Clinical Nutrition division entered the pediatric market with Bfluid 500 mL, and addressed the taste fatigue of patients taking oral nutrition supplements with Neo-Mune Melon which was found to be palatable by Asians.
OPPI also introduced a novel approach for enteral nutrition supplementation with Hinex, the first “Semi-Solid” preparation EN launched in November 2017.
In July 2018, another innovative product was added to the CN portfolio with the launch of GFO (Glutamine; Fiber; Oligosaccharide) which was marketed to enhance the gastrointestinal function addressing diarrhea and constipation.
