Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Awareness Day

“Bene-Feet” 12th Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Awareness Day

The 12th Anniversary of the PAD Awareness Day once again proved to be another momentous event as it is back in Manila after previous year’s nationwide caravan. Strong commitment and collaborative spirit unified the key societies namely the Institute for Studies on Diabetes Foundation Inc. (ISDFI), Philippine Society of Vascular Medicine (PSVM) and Philippine Wound Care Society (PWCS) along with their members, patient groups and advocates for this long-standing cause to spread awareness about the disease.

The early morning rain showers did not dampen the energy of the participants as they marched around the Quezon Memorial Circle grounds for the Unity Walk last July 29. Donned in vibrant attires, representatives from different diabetic clubs in Metro Manila proudly raised their flaglets, posters and banners with call-to-action statements to help increase awareness on diabetes and PAD. As they paraded towards the assembly area, everyone cannot help but dance to the lively and upbeat music played by the band which then jumpstarted the zumba exercise. The highly intense zumba dance featuring fun footwork routines further engaged the participants as they moved to the beat and sweat it out. It was definitely a good way to kick start the morning jam-packed with activities.

Apart from the beneficial body work out, free medical screenings, cheering presentation and fun booth exhibits, talks on diabetes care, PAD and its risks including stroke were presented and explained by the speakers. An interactive segment followed, with speakers answering interesting questions raised by the patients related to proper management of diabetes, PAD and stroke signs and symptoms. Overall, the event achieved what it promised to deliver that is not only about driving increased awareness on PAD but also giving all attendees more BENE-FEET.
